eb_bang In the description, they say the average output is 2W (we should probably understand "average" as "continuous")So maybe the 3.5w is the power output with short pulse TTL ?

This unit arrived with two damaged connectors, one broken the other deformed and would likely break if I tried to straighten it. The electrolytic capacitor near the connectors is somewhat damaged and I don't trust it. I was able to make some connections and get this to fire up. It turns on the UV laser as soon as power is applied, which is a bit of a safety hazard, but hey, were playing with something that can permanently blind you in less than a second, what can go wrong? I broke out some equipment and found the power output is not the claimed 3.5W (3500 mW) but is actually 2.1W (2100 mW). I didn't have the equipment handy to verify the wavelength is what is claimed, when I get my replacement, I'll measure it on that one. I have taken a few photos to prove my claims and am sharing an optical image of the laser diode (as seen with the lens removed) and some x-ray images of the assembly. The driver board appears (unverified) to be soldered with lead solder, but the quality is very good. On some of the components with bottom thermal pads, there is nearly 0 voiding of the solder, which is difficult to achieve. I am impressed by the quality. Some of the X-ray images make me question the quality of the mounting of the laser diode to the heatsink, as there appears to be some significant gaps due to tolerances of the parts. I did not look further, so there may be some sort of thermal interface material being used, which would not show up on an X-Ray.
