mcfudge Onemissing part and one missing trace. My kit (Feb 2019) was missing one trace from LED D8 cathode side up to resistor R2 (same side). Connecting those will enable the power on LED to illuminate. The missing component was R17. I powered it on and when it didn't work I discovered 3 pins on the STC 89C52 were not connected. After firmly soldering it still did not work and the IC began to overheat. I'll get a replacement and give it a go again. I do expect the circuit to fully work as a clock and/or timer. I don't think it's just an exercise in practicing soldering components that ultimately do nothing.

mcfudge To remove a pin from the male header heat it with a soldering tip and pull it out with pliers. To remove a female pin from an assembled connector use a sharp narrow pointy tool like a small flat screwdriver or a dental pick to press down the metal retaining hook tab while pulling the wire and pin out of the socket. No special tool required.
