i-lite I have one of them attached to a small heat sink, it is ok at 12 volts and taking in 5 W no problem. Heats to about 70 deg centigrade but no more - size of the heat sink is 25 x 25 x 8 mm, used some heat transfer paste there. It will certainly burn without a heatsink at full blast but at 8,3 V and 100 mA it does not heat much and still gives light at this level, less than 1 W :-) - perfect for my camera light project where I don't need many watts and definitely no heat.

i-lite Naah, the headline power is always at full voltage, in this case 36 V which translates to approximately 4 amps, not much more. This in turn means that at a lower voltage, e.g. 18 V you'd only get the same 4 amps and a bit, not much more. Comprendo? So you have to plan according to your max amps and let the voltage follow. Current creates waste heat, that is why we use high voltage for many things nowadays :-)
