looks good - - - solve some issues with Creality design - - - have not tried to see if it fits in properly - - - - it should

  • JamesP166 more detailed review - - I am a design engineer with electronics and mechanical background - - - many aspects of this design are quite a good improvement over the standard creality hot end - - - - first the screws to hold the heater block to the heat sink - - - which I really like over the other designs - - which means that when changing the nozzle the heater block does not rotate as with other designs - - what I like about the modification here is - - - the screws to hold the hot end to the heat sink - - are in line with the nozzle - - - I have had troubles with tightening the screws on the current creality design causing a shift at the junction of the nozzle and heat break - - causing a leak that - - well - - flows plastic all over the hot end - - - ugh - - - and in the threads - - a mess to clean up - - - - I like the way that the heat break sits firmly against the heat sink - - a nice and solid heat transfer setup - - - the clamping of the heat break to the heat sink - - results in a single line of contact - - - this seems to be more solid means - - - - the big negative is that the nozzle is centered in the heat block - - which puts the back edge of the heat block against the carriage on my CR 10's - - - ouch - - - well we all have 3d printers - - so going to design and make a spacer - - - with the side of the heat sink - - the heat sink should not get warm enough to effect PLA - - if it does I will reprint in PETG. - - - or as it is not going to be very think - - maybe ABS - - the only other aspect of the design that seems is the Temp sensor type - - - one that is in a tube instead of a bead - - - actually the tube design would have better heat transfer for faster response than the bead versions that are not in solid contact with - - most of the sensors that I have are the bead time - - oopsthe only improvement would be to change the heater clamping method - - - to one that has a slit at the edge and is screwed tight to lock in the heater element - -

  • JamesP166 heater mounting type with the slit that has 1 or two screws to clamp the heater in - - will have better heat conductivity from the heater to the heater block that one that uses a set screw to push the heater against the edge of the hole - - - - the combination of these two items should result in better temperature stability - - - with the dynamic changing loads - - - extruding or just moving - - - - I have watched the hot end try to keep up with the changes in heat requirements - - - the heater has a thermo mass and the temp sensor has a delay aspect in responding to the hot end temperature changes - - - these aspects limit the ability of the hot end to be as stable as could be possible - - - except of needing to make a spacer for my CR 10 and the minor issue of the heater clamping - - - really a good solid design - - - and oh the end of the heat break has two flats - - - what for - - - took me a couple of seconds to realize - - - the interface where the heat break is in contact with the nozzle - - must be real tight - - no chance of any gap - - - - those flats allow for using a wrench to be sure that the interface is real tight - - - - and with the screws being in line with the nozzle - - they can not cause a shift to allow filament leak - - - - over all a much better design - - -
