connected input to 12VDC and output to Fluke voltmeter. Initial setting of the potentiometer, as received, gave approximately the input voltage. Adjusted the voltage down to just over 5 V. Further adjusting the potentiometer dropped the voltage to 0, more or less as expected. Turning the pot the other way brought the voltage up smoothly to over 30V under no load - continued turning the pot when there was a sudden voltage drop and the XL6009 started heating. Disconnected voltage immediately. Added 20 ohms of power resistors in series with the input and tried again. No output voltage. A resistance check across the out put showed approx 0.3 ohms -- more or less a dead short. Thought it might be one of the two caps filtering the output so I removed and tested these and then replaced them with new 50 V rated caps. Still no output and a shorted input. My conclusion is that it is possible to destroy the XL6009 by adjusting the output voltage in excess of 30V; i.e. no integral protection in the circuit on the higher voltage side. USE A VOLTMETER WHEN ADJUSTING THE POTENTIOMETER AND DO NO EXCEED MAXIMUM VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION.
