skifreak22 The batteries not dead you have to remove the plastic from the negative end of the battery.

SolderingOn Make sure that there wasn't a very thin plastic film on the negative terminal that needs removing!

CostasV The included rechargeable battery has a transparent protective film over the negative terminal. Have you removed it? If you haven't, the battery cannot make proper contact with the flashlight and will appear to be dead. Remove the film and try again.
