This is a fine kit to do as a learning exercise. The radio does actually work, we can get 2 channels and it is very tinny, but I think that is a good result! I built this with my 10-year-old, he soldered and I supervised. He is very excited that it works.
Note the instructions are in Chinese, and although the position of components is marked on the board I would have come unstuck several times without the various youtubes and web pages you can find on this kit (look for HX-6B). The most useful was:

The radio did actually work, we could get 2 channels and it is very tinny, but I think that is a good result! The kit had everything needed, we only needed a small soldering iron, nimble fingers, and a very few standard small tools.
Delivery took around 6 weeks, longer than I anticipated but the pandemic may have been a factor.
There are other kits available based on a chip, but then you get to see nothing of the circuitry or the components that go into a radio.
