The heat sinks have a self adhesive sticker, so basically one can attach them to any surface. I use them on the chip of a stepper motor driver and they do their job perfectly. They can also be fitted on video cards (on the VRAM chips), or any chips which has around 8.5x15 mm^2 surface area.
