The bulbs are made of a gelatinous material that makes them quite durable. I use 16 of these and draw 28.6W from the wall at 12.00VDC. Considering the effiency of the power supply, the rating of 1.5W per bulb seems very accurate. The LEDs are generally brighter than the Halogen bulbs i used before and have a much cooler lightcolor, that i personally like alot. I would not use the LEDs with AC power supplies, although it may work because of the diodes on the PCB, but due to the higher peak voltages of around 16,3V the lifetime could be affected. Furthermore, when switching to LEDs, it often happens that the (mostly used) switching power supply runs below its minimal load, which results in an unstable voltage which is perceived as a flickering. Hence, i also bought a new power supply with lower specs (60W instead of 160W) and DC output, but still with enough headroom (min. 130 - 140% of the estimated power consumption).
